Yes it does improve steering while using it on a bar. Remember that you will still have most control when you use handles.
You cannot use a chickenloop since the lines that go through the bar are the brake lines. You attach a leash to to the brakelines which again is attached to your harness. So when you unhook the bar and let go of it then the kite will be flown on the brakelines and the kite will come down, this is your safety and you can compare it with kitekillers.
